My Teneo Experience

The breakthrough During this year, Summer Catherine made a remarkable academic breakthrough. Her marks improved significantly across almost all her subjects. She increased her Physical Science mark from 60% the previous year to 78% this year, and her Mathematics marks rose from the 70–80% range to an outstanding 97%. Her English, Afrikaans, and Life Sciences results also showed strong improvement. These achievements are as a result of the extra hours she committed towards her studies and the new study methods she adopted. The structure of online learning helped her develop discipline, and she began revising consistently, engaging deeply with her subjects, and taking responsibility for her academic growth.

The transformation Beyond her academic performance, Summer experienced a very difficult personal transformation this year. As the year went on, her mother’s health began to deteriorate severely, and Summer being an only child, in a divorced home, had to take on the mature responsibility of caring for, and nursing her mum. This meant enduring many late nights, time spent at hospitals, sometimes spending several evenings to the early hours of the morning, and taking significant emotional strain. After her mother’s passing, Summer took the loss quite badly and underwent a lengthy grieving period, which led to her marks dropping in Term 2 because she had missed so much work. Despite this extremely difficult period, she found the strength to rebuild herself. By Term 3, she had regained focus and lifted her marks again. This experience shaped her resilience, maturity, and determination. It strengthened her love of learning and deepened her motivation to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. She wants to honour her mother’s memory, make her family proud, and one day help others facing illness and hardship.

The support that made the difference Throughout everything, Teneo’s structure and support played a significant role in Summer’s progress. The recorded lessons option allowed her to catch up on the work she missed during her mother’s hospital admissions. The teachers consistently supported her, understanding her circumstances and allowing her the necessary time for her mental well-being. Teneo also provided her with detailed notes, past papers, and free extra lessons in key subjects, which helped strengthen her knowledge and confidence. The encouragement and dedication of her teachers made a meaningful difference during one of the most challenging times of her life. Because of these systems and the support she received from Teneo, Summer found the stability she needed to continue moving forward academically, even through personal loss and the various challenges faced.

Closing Statement This year has demonstrated that Summer is capable of overcoming difficult challenges while remaining committed to her goals. She is determined to work hard, achieve outstanding results, and pursue Medicine at her dream university. A bursary for next year would not only ease the financial pressure on her family, but also give her the opportunity and motivation to continue striving for excellence.
