A Heartfelt Appeal Regarding Learner Suspensions During Exams
It truly breaks my heart to witness the growing number of parents expressing distress over their children being suspended during the second term exams. I, too, find myself in this painful situation. My child was suspended because I had an outstanding balance of R750. Despite my efforts to make a payment arrangement for the 15th, my plea was met with silence.
I have since made the payment in full and am now urgently trying to have the suspension lifted—my son is scheduled to write tomorrow. The stress and emotional toll this has taken on both of us is difficult to put into words.
I fully understand that Teneo is a business, and like any other, it must maintain financial sustainability. However, the approach of suspending learners—especially during such a critical academic period—feels incredibly harsh. These are children who have worked hard, prepared, and deserve the opportunity to prove themselves.
Is there not a more compassionate alternative? Perhaps withholding reports until fees are settled, or implementing a structured payment plan that still allows learners to complete their exams? Education is a right, and while financial responsibility is important, it should not come at the cost of a child’s academic future.
I hope this message reaches someone who can reflect on the human impact of these policies. We are not just account numbers—we are parents, guardians, and most importantly, advocates for our children’s dreams.

However, I must express my disappointment, as it appears that my initial review was not fully understood. Your reply felt more like a generic response aimed at addressing surface-level issues rather than engaging with the core of my concerns.
To clarify, my review explicitly stated that I owed Teneo R750 and made several attempts to arrange payment, unfortunately, without success. More importantly, my primary concern is the policy of suspending learners during examination periods. This practice is not only distressing but also detrimental to the academic progress of students. I am not alone in this sentiment; several other parents have voiced similar concerns.
My intention in writing the review was to urge the leadership team, particularly those in decision-making roles to seriously reconsider this policy. I believe there is an opportunity here to explore more compassionate and constructive alternatives that support both the institution’s financial requirements and the learners’ educational continuity.
I hope this message is received in the spirit of constructive feedback and that it prompts meaningful reflection and action and that in the future you will read with comprehension and answer not only for the sake of answering.
