Frustrating experience with Tax Tim
If you're a novice, then Tax Tim would probably work. If not, then it's likely to be a frustrating experience. Pros: It's an alternate platform, less glitchy than SARS. Cons: If you've input info on SARS efiling already, even if you input updated data on Tax Tim, the data is compared side by side. This probably increases the chances of being audited. My understanding was that the Tax Tim submission would 'save over' the SARS data. Apparently it may not work like this. Tax Tim has exactly the same fields as SARS. Apart from guiding you through the tax codes you find on your IRP5 (which you will find on the SARS site anyway), there is no other meaningful advantages to using Tax Tim rather than file direct with SARS. If you've given Tax Tim consent to file for you, and you change your mind, you will not find your return on Efiling anymore. You cannot phone Tax Tim. You have to log a query via email and wait for it to be answered. Even SARS answers phonecalls (eventually).. Sadly what I thought would be a quick efficient experience is turning out to be anything but : - (
TaxTim is designed to make tax filing simpler and less intimidating, especially for those who aren’t fami**** with SARS eFiling. While it’s true that SARS and TaxTim use the same fields, our goal is to guide users through the process step-by-step, making sure the correct information is entered and reducing errors that could trigger audits. We compare the information you’ve entered with the data that SARS has on record. You can choose to accept the SARS data if you believe it is correct. Alternatively, if you don’t agree with the SARS data, you can select to overwrite it with what you entered on TaxTim. This comparison is simply a way to double-check that the information SARS has is accurate.
The reason you don’t see your tax return on eFiling is that TaxTim was most likely granted full access to your profile instead of shared access. This sometimes happens in error on SARS’s side and is unfortunately outside our control. The good news is that it’s easy to fix, you just need to obtain shared access again. I can see you’ve already submitted a query to our helpdesk and the steps have been sent to you.
