Unreliable, bad service

I placed an order with the expectation — based on the information displayed on Takealot’s own website — that next‑day delivery was perfectly reasonable. What followed was a masterclass in misinformation, inconsistency, and customer service that seems to rely heavily on guesswork.

I phoned the call centre at 08:00 and several times throughout the day. Not once did any agent mention that the parcel was being shipped from Cape Town, nor that the delivery timeframe shown online was inaccurate. This rather important detail only surfaced during my final call, long after I had already planned around the delivery. Impressive timing.

Their website also failed to indicate that additional costs were required for next‑day delivery, yet somehow the blame is shifted to the customer for “using the standard delivery benefit.” The irony is that I didn’t request same‑day delivery — I requested following‑day delivery, exactly as advertised.

The agents I spoke to were unable to provide consistent or accurate information, and the lack of training is painfully obvious. The communication gaps between the website, the call centre, and the actual delivery process are astonishing. At this point, “*************” and “unreliable” feel less like criticism and more like accurate descriptors of the service.

If transparency, reliability, and basic professionalism are important to you, consider this a warning. My experience has shown that Takealot’s promises and their actual service are two very different things.
