The Wax Candle Scandal: The Rotten Core at Takealot Warehouses

I’ve been an e-commerce shopper for over 12 years, first in England and now in South Africa for the last six years. Initially, I was nervous about shopping online here, but Takealot quickly earned my trust as a reliable, cost-effective platform.

Unfortunately, over the past year, I’ve noticed a troubling and consistent issue: whenever I purchase an expensive tech item, I often receive the wrong product—a cheap, throwaway item mislabeled as the pricey tech I ordered. Most recently, the “replacement” item has consistently been an LED ‘Wax Candle,’ hence the title of this review.

It’s become glaringly obvious that there are individuals within Takealot’s supply chain exploiting their positions. These bad actors are removing expensive items, pocketing them, and sending customers a Wax Candle as a mockery of the system. This is not a one-off mistake but a recurring trend that suggests systemic issues within Takealot’s operations.

In all my years of shopping with Amazon, I’ve never experienced anything remotely similar. Delays? Sure, they happen in global supply chains. But outright theft and deliberate substitution of items? Never. The Wax Candle Scandal is a new low.

As a result, I’ve decided to stop purchasing tech or high-value items from Takealot. Thankfully, Amazon has recently entered the South African market, proving that a robust and reliable supply chain is possible here. If they can manage it, why can’t Takealot?

Takealot, your reputation is burning but not like the LED Wax Candles you’ve sent me. I’m left sad, disappointed, and surrounded by unwanted LED candles.
