Buyers Beware: My Disappointing Experience with Takealot

On the 28 March, I purchased five-tier floating corner shelves from Takealot for my son's room. Imagine his disappointment when we discovered the first shelf was damaged upon arrival. I promptly closed the box and contacted Takealot on the 2 April to arrange a return.

Conveniently, their driver was already scheduled to pick up another item the next day. An item previously ordered that when delivered and opened, was not new and clearly appeared used or second-hand.

Both items, with separate return numbers, were collected by the same driver on the same day.

Three days later, on the 6 April, my returned items reached the warehouse. Takealot issued a full refund for the clearly second-hand item, however this is where a new problem magically appeared.

Takealot inexplicably claimed four of the five shelves were missing, essentially accusing me of returning an empty box.

While I understand the need for accountability, I did seal the box in front of their driver.

Furthermore, what use would anyone have for four disassembled shelves? The set requires all parts for functionality.

Despite repeated follow-ups, including requests for evidence of tampering or photos, I received no response. On the 17 April, I checked the status online only to discover Takealot had rejected my return due to "missing parts" without any investigation or communication.

The product has since been returned in different packaging. It's clear that what I sent back isn't what they have now since returned.

What continues to shock me in this unbelievable situation is, why take four out of the five shelves while leaving all the connecting accessories behind? That’s just absolute absurdity and serves no purpose, in my opinion.

This experience has been very frustrating. It's important to note that this experience is not uncommon with Takealot. They take NO accountability if YOUR purchased items magically disappear while under the care of their facilities, deliveries and fulfilment process.
