Takealot won't refund or replace headphones

Bought a pair of Berlinger Headphones and within 3 months the plastic where you adjust your headphones broke. It started with a hairline crack and within a few days, it completely snapped when taking them off my head. They won't refund or replace my headphones due to them saying and I quote "There is visible user damage to your item which voids the warranty(headphones broken.)" Is taking my headphones on and off my head going to damage the product then there is something seriously wrong here... I find it disgusting that my headphones broke within 3 months (6 month warranty) and takealot is not willing to help me...
