Takealot Says Voucher Is Invalid — Then Advertises It as “Last Chance”
I am extremely disappointed with the way Takealot has handled a problem with a Soundcore promotional voucher.
On 20 August 2026, I attempted to purchase Soundcore Space One headphones from Takealot for R1,499. I had a Soundcore promotional coupon, SC10OFF, which offered 10% off.
At checkout, Takealot rejected the coupon with the message:
“Customer redemption limit reached.”
I then checked my Takealot account to see whether the promotion had any redemption restrictions that I had missed. The coupon was still clearly displayed under my available Coupons & Offers as:
“Get 10% Off Soundcore”
Code: SC10OFF Valid until: 30/09/26
There was no indication displayed with the coupon that the promotion had already reached a campaign-wide redemption limit.
I contacted Takealot for assistance and was eventually told that the promotion was a time-sensitive campaign with a limited redemption capacity and that it had reached its maximum capacity and was therefore “no longer valid”.
I questioned why Takealot was still displaying the coupon in my account if it was supposedly no longer valid.
Takealot's subsequent response acknowledged that the coupon might still appear even though it had reached its redemption limit, and again confirmed that it was no longer valid.
Then, on 22 August 2026 at 16:11, I received an email FROM TAKEALOT with the subject:
“Wayne, ⏰ last chance for 10% off soundcore!”
The email specifically advertised the SAME promotion and stated:
“Get 10% off selected soundcore products. Use code SC10OFF at checkout.”
It also stated that the promotion is valid on purchases between 24 July 2026 and 30 September 2026.
So I now have a very straightforward question for Takealot:
How can Takealot tell me that SC10OFF has reached its maximum redemption capacity and is “no longer valid”, while Takealot is simultaneously sending me an email advertising that exact same promotion as a “last chance” offer and instructing me to use the exact same code?
This is not simply a case of a voucher failing at checkout.
The problem is the contradictory information being provided by Takealot itself.
I made a genuine attempt to purchase the headphones while the promotion was being presented to me as available. I then contacted Takealot in good faith when the coupon failed. Instead of receiving a clear explanation, I received repeated assurances that the promotion had ended — only to receive a further Takealot marketing email promoting the supposedly “no longer valid” promotion.
I have screenshots of the failed checkout, the coupon displayed in my account, and the promotional email received today.
I am extremely unhappy with this experience and do not believe that this matter should simply be dismissed with another generic explanation about redemption limits.
Takealot needs to explain why it continues to actively advertise a promotion to customers after telling those same customers that the promotion has ended.
I would like Takealot to investigate this properly and honour the advertised 10% discount on the purchase I attempted to make.
Customers should be able to rely on the information Takealot itself provides. When the company's own website, customer-service responses and marketing emails contradict one another, it seriously undermines that trust.
