Takealot Samsung phone blacklisted

I bought a new Samsung phone from Takealot in 2024 and it was blacklisted by MTN in early Feb 2026 despite me having no contracts with MTN. On googling the issue it seems to be quite prevalent and appears to relate to ***** suppliers dealing in phones with 'questionable' histories. I submitted everything Takealot asked for and 4 days later there is still no feedback on when and how this will be resolved. The test of business' commitment to customer service is how they respond when things go wrong. In my opinion they are failing badly on this one and my confidence in dealing with them in future has been shaken.

Just got an email from them saying they will refund/credit me. if that happens in a reasonable time I will update my review accordingly.

It's now 04 March 2026 and I just got an email from Takealot to say that the evaluation of he returned phone is on hold because I didn't include a USB cable with it. That seems more than a little petty considering the phone got blacklisted after two years. The original cable has long ago gone the way of charge cables (i.e. broken and in the bin) and the one I send them back now will cost them more to collect than it cost me to buy.

Takealot did the right thing and refunded me in full on 07 March. Disappointed that it took 11 days of which 4 was wasted with me needing to send them a USB charging cable for a 2 year old phone. I strongly advise against buying mobile devices from them unless they are from major branded sellers as there seems to be a lot of iffy goings on with small independents supplying devices that later get blacklisted because of questionable backgrounds.
