Takealot rejected cracked headphones as “user damage” after less than 4 months

My Anker Soundcore Q45 headphones developed a structural crack near the headband hinge after less than 4 months of normal use. There are no signs of dropping, impact, crushing or misuse, yet Takealot rejected my return as “user damage.”

I provided photographic evidence showing the crack and the otherwise excellent condition of the headphones. I have requested that Takealot reconsider the decision and resolve the matter fairly under the CPA.

For a product to fail structurally after less than four months and then have the return rejected without a satisfactory assessment is extremely disappointing.

UPDATE – Takealot finally agreed to resolve this, but now I’m being ignored.

On 1 September at 16:25, a Takealot representative contacted me and offered me a refund or Takealot credit. I chose credit because Takealot states that credit is instant.

Today is 4 September — 3 days later — and I have received nothing. No credit, no ETA, and no response to my follow-up email.

After initially rejecting my cracked headphones as “user damage”, Takealot finally agreed to resolve the matter. Now I’m having to chase them for the resolution they offered me.

I bought these headphones specifically for work. I’m now without the headphones and without the money to replace them.

Takealot, “instant credit” shouldn’t mean waiting days while the customer gets ignored. You’ve already acknowledged the issue — now please honour your commitment and resolve it.

UPDATE: RESOLVED — after a long and frustrating process.

Takealot has now credited my account following my previous updates.

I appreciate that the matter has ultimately been resolved, but it took multiple follow-ups and public escalation before the promised credit was actually processed.

What started as a straightforward return for headphones that developed a structural crack after less than 4 months turned into a drawn-out process involving a rejected return, further escalation, and then having to chase Takealot again after being promised credit.

I’m glad this has finally been resolved, but customers shouldn’t have to repeatedly follow up or resort to HelloPeter to get a resolution that has already been promised.

Credit received. Case closed. But Takealot’s customer-service process needs serious improvement.
