Takealot Refund Process Caused Financial Loss and Removed Insurance Claim Option
I am lodging a formal complaint regarding my return experience with Takealot.
Order Number: *** Purchase Date: 30 June 2025 Product: 2 × Bluetti EB3A 600W Portable Power Stations (268Wh) Purchase Price: R4,499 each (Total: R8,998)
Both units developed faults and were returned. The return was processed under reference MRRN-CKDMB-VMYO, and I received a refund of R4,770.
My concerns are as follows:
I was not given the option of repair or replacement. At no stage was it communicated that the return would be processed strictly as a refund. The refund amount is significantly lower than the cost required to replace the original items. I am now financially prejudiced by over R4,000. Critically, I deliberately did not proceed with an insurance claim while awaiting Takealot and/or Bluetti’s assessment and resolution. Based on standard insurance requirements for prompt reporting, this delay may now have invalidated or prejudiced my ability to claim.
Had I been informed upfront that the outcome would be a partial refund rather than repair or replacement, I would have immediately pursued the insurance route instead.
As a result, I have now:
Lost the ability to replace the original items at equivalent value, and Potentially lost access to an alternative financial remedy via insurance
I could have opted for repair or assessment instead of returning the items.
This places me in a materially worse position due to the way the return was handled and communicated.
I request the following resolution:
Replacement of the two units at no additional cost, OR A refund equivalent to the full replacement value of the original items, OR A formal written explanation addressing why no repair/replacement option was offered and why the implications of a refund-only process were not communicated
This matter raises serious concerns regarding fair process and consumer rights under the Consumer Protection Act.
I look forward to your urgent response.
Kind regards, Koot
