Takealot Order Delivered to a Stranger — Accountability Needed

I’m deeply disappointed by my recent experience with Takealot.com, and I believe it’s important to share this publicly so others are aware of what can happen when proper delivery verification is not followed.

My order was marked as delivered in Weltevreden Park, even though I was in KwaZulu-Natal attending a funeral at the time. I received no call or notification from the delivery driver to confirm my availability or to request permission to hand my parcel to someone else.

Days later, after raising the issue with Takealot, I was provided with the contact details of the person who accepted my order — a complete stranger I have never met. The individual admitted to accepting and using my order.

What’s even more concerning is that Takealot confirmed the delivery as complete, despite the fact that I never gave authorization for anyone else to receive it.

This raises serious questions about Takealot’s delivery verification process, customer data protection, and accountability when things go wrong.

All I’m asking for is simple and fair — 👉 Replace or refund my order in perfect condition. 👉 Review and strengthen your delivery verification process to ensure customers’ parcels are not handed to random individuals without consent.

Customers trust online retailers to handle their orders securely. That trust shouldn’t be broken by poor delivery controls or weak follow-up procedures.

Next step will be to lodge this with the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO)
