Takealot: Ongoing Delays, Mismanagement, No Tracking Provided, and Extremely Poor Communication
am submitting this complaint due to the extremely poor handling of my return and replacement by Takealot. The process has involved repeated delays, incorrect updates, and a complete lack of transparency.
1. One-Month Return Process with No Clear Outcome
My return journey began over a month ago and has been repeatedly mishandled. Despite complying with every requirement, my device was twice returned to me without being assessed.
2. Replacement Approved — Then No Information Provided
Takealot confirmed on 26 November 2025 that the supplier approved a full replacement. However:
No dispatch confirmation was provided,
No tracking number was shared,
No courier reference was given, and
No proof of shipment was provided.
For days, I was told only to “wait,” with nothing to verify that the parcel even existed.
3. Return Falsely Marked as “Cancelled/Concluded”
My return was then incorrectly marked as cancelled and concluded, despite:
No replacement being delivered,
No tracking being issued,
No dispatch proof being provided.
This is a critical procedural error and entirely unacceptable.
4. Still No Tracking, Yet Takealot Claims It’s “En Route”
I was told today that my replacement is allegedly scheduled for delivery on 5 December. Yet no tracking information has been provided to support this claim.
No reputable retailer declares an item “en route” without issuing tracking details. This demonstrates unprofessionalism and poor transparency.
5. Additional Concern: Team Leader Reputation on HelloPeter
The consultant who contacted me, Rabia Gasant, is listed on HelloPeter in several prior customer complaints which raise concerns about poor communication and unresolved issues. Given my own experience — particularly the lack of tracking information, incorrect status closures, and delayed responses — I unfortunately see the same pattern repeating.
This deepens my concern about the handling of my case.
6. Overall Lack of Accountability
Throughout this month-long process, I have received:
Inconsistent information,
Contradictory explanations,
Long delays without updates,
No transparency regarding courier details, and
Multiple administrative errors.
This is not the standard of service expected from South Africa’s largest online retailer.
7. What I Request
I am requesting the following, urgently:
Immediate release of my tracking information
Confirmation of actual dispatch
Explanation for the incorrect closure of my return
Accountability from Takealot’s senior support teams
Assurance that the issues highlighted will be addressed internally
After more than a month of delays and confusion, I simply want verifiable proof that my replacement device is truly on its way.
- I cannot verify whether the parcel actually exists,
- I cannot track its movement,
- I cannot confirm whether it is genuinely “en route,”
- I cannot confirm the claimed delivery date of 5 December, and
- I am once again forced to request basic information that should have been included upfront.
No reputable retailer issues “tracking numbers” without disclosing which courier is transporting the parcel. Given the history of delays, repeated miscommunication, incorrect return closures, and contradictory updates, this lack of transparency only deepens the concern around how my case is being handled. I am now requesting — again — that Takealot provide:
- The courier name,
- The correct tracking link,
- Proof of actual dispatch, and
- A verified delivery timeline.
Customers should not have to chase after basic information such as a clickable tracking link, especially after a month-long ordeal. I expect a clear and verifiable update from Takealot urgently.
