TAKEALOT NEEDS A SYSTEM OVERHAUL AND A FEW REAL CHIEFS!

The issue experienced related to the refund due to me after I returned a defective product. Frustration arose from continues delays, constant baton passing and the absolute radio silence throughout the issue until after the refund was received, when an agent who duly followed up and apologised via mail received a shoddy review. He did not deserve it but suddenly, my phone started ringing and I am certain the issue would have been resolved much more efficiently had the accountability not become diluted as the query traveled from agent to agent between two different teams.

What follows below is a revised feedback comment which was updated following two lengthy telecoms with said agent and his team leader. I adjusted the rating because in truth the issue is not with the team as much as it is with the operational leadership and its flawed protocols. I think the comment communicates the full girth of my dissatisfaction with Takealot:

“It defies all reason how an agent, with no prior involvement in a customer's query, can be expected to follow up with genuine understanding when an issue arises. Grant and most of the agents I dealt with seemed genuine in their efforts and concern, so he does not deserve a bad rating. But TAKEALOT does and this is why...

To then require said agent to apologize—presumably for the glaring failures of the Takealot system—underscores how deeply flawed and unsupported your protocols are in empowering agents to effectively and authoritatively resolve customer needs. WHERE CAN ONE RATE THE TAKEALOT SYSTEM, THE APP, ITS TIMING, OR ITS ADHERENCE TO ADVERTISED PROMISES? WHERE? PRAY, TELL? The root of the problem lies in Takealot's dated, profit-over-people approach. Your "relay race" method of query handling, where accountability is dodged through endless baton-passing, is both frustrating and dehumanizing. This, coupled with your evident aversion to direct customer contact—manifested in the near-impossibility of finding a contact number on your site or app—further erodes trust. The ultimate insult? No one thought to pick up the phone and call during the height of the issue.

By the time Grant became the fourth or fifth agent to “assist,” my frustration had reached a boiling point, escalating with every failed attempt at resolution. How can an agent, dropped into the tail-end of an ongoing problem with no real context, possibly succeed? The fact that my query bounced between five agents and two separate teams paints an ugly picture of Takealot’s disregard for its customers.

When a transaction is made, Takealot wastes no time in securing the payment. But when the tables turn, and you need to do right by your customers—like issuing a refund—the system suddenly resists with all the efficiency of a brick wall. Shame on you, Takealot! Especially as international retailers such as Temu, AliExpress, and Amazon outperform you in every conceivable way, including issuing refunds within hours of logging a query.

Takealot, YOUR SYSTEM IS INHERENTLY FLAWED, outdated, and reeks of a "take all you can, give nothing back" mentality. The burden of these shortcomings unfairly falls on your agents, while leadership remains blissfully unaccountable. Neither your agents, team leaders, nor line managers can resolve lingering issues which emanate from shoddy protocols and a operational leadership which appears inept at driving necessary change when the online retail landscape is ablaze with disruption and radicle change is required. Competitors are exposing how wholly unacceptable your service has become. Wake up, Takealot, before you’re left in the dust.

The reviewing system does not even provide a scaled rating for the agent's performance. Seriously?

I'm satisfied that Grant's follow-through prompted me to fully consider, confront and communicate what exactly it is that is aggravates frustration in such matters as the issues I experienced. Unfortunately I did not receive a review prompt for every agent I engage with or for the fatally flawed system within which they must operate.”
