Takealot in violation of the Consumer Protection Act

Takealot is in violation of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and seems to have a habit of making it very difficult for its customers when it comes to returns.

We purchased a Television per order MRRN-RZKA8-P6ED for the sum of R13499.00 on 22 February 2024.

At the same time, the room in which it would be installed was being renovated, and we had to wait for the work to be completed.

It stood upright, safely stored in the same position inside the property while we waited.

On 20th March, when we were ready to install the TV, we opened the packaging to find that the screen was cracked in multiple places, it was very obviously severely damaged in transit.

A return was logged on the same day, and the Television was collected the next day.

On the 27th, we were notified by email that the return had been declined because we had not returned the item within 7 days.

The CPA makes it clear that consumers have a reasonable period to conclude whether an item is defective, or not.

This is a very dishonest business practice, and it needs to be stopped.
