Takealot Ignored CPA Section 56 Responsibilities on Faulty Bosch Oven

We purchased a Bosch Series 6 built-in oven through Takealot and began experiencing issues almost immediately after installation. The oven baked inconsistently, the advertised “3D Hotair” function did not bake evenly, the unit ran significantly hotter than expected, and the interior coating began showing damage within the first month of normal household use. We also experienced progressive overheating between batches and clock drift requiring regular correction. After multiple technician visits and extensive testing, Bosch eventually confirmed in writing that the unit is faulty and escalated the matter internally for a decision on replacement or further action. What has been most disappointing is Takealot’s complete refusal to accept any responsibility throughout this process. We were repeatedly told to deal directly with the manufacturer, despite the Consumer Protection Act clearly placing responsibility on the supplier/retailer as well. Section 56(2) of the Consumer Protection Act states that within 6 months of delivery, consumers may return defective goods to the supplier without penalty if the goods fail to satisfy the requirements and standards contemplated in Section 55, and the supplier must, at the direction of the consumer, either repair, replace or refund the goods. Despite this: the faults were reported very shortly after purchase, Bosch has confirmed in writing that the unit is faulty, and nearly 2 months later there is still no resolution. Instead of assisting as the supplier under the CPA, Takealot effectively distanced itself from the matter entirely by referring us solely to Bosch. For a premium appliance and a major retailer, this entire experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing.
