Takealot doesn't give much!

<p>Okay, so recently I found that I couldn't access the books I bought in 2014 from Kalahari.com.</p> <p>They had worked up until I had a problem with a memory card, but when I tried to re-download the books I couldn't access them because Adobe digital Editions had already licensed the files to another user.</p> <p>I called Takealot and was informed that it was up to me to sort things out with Adobe (because do it yourself customer service)... I chatted with Adobe and was told that they couldn't tell me what this unknown ID was, but it was up to the retailer to re-direct the license.</p> <p>Just to test my ID, I downloaded a fresh book from takealot and low and behold it worked... no changes my side.</p> <p>However when I pointed this out to takealot I was informed that while they could change the licence details they were not prepared to incur the cost... - of setting things up so I could use the products I had bought from the company they merged with (they deny that there is any problem with licencing caused by the merger but as I say it is funny how the 2014 books are affected and 2016 books are fine - naturally all fault and responsibility lay with me in their opinion).</p> <p>Takealot cannot even tell me what the Adobe ID that will be required to open the books I have paid for was and seem to think it is fine to leave things there.</p> <p>i.e. "sorry not our problem, just buy the books again."</p> <p>I don't think that is right, I think that if you sell a digital product you should at least have some means of establishing details in the event of a mix-up. Is no one ever going to mislay their details?? (I don't want any passwords but some idea of what this fictional Adobe ID was would really help - right now I am stone-walled and in the dark).</p> <p>I don't think that, clients should not lose out, while a large company gets to hold onto the profits for a service that they are not fulfilling (if I can't access the book what did they get their profit for exactly?).</p> <p>I know I'm spitting in the wind but I thought I would share this experience and see if others had any similar ones (or even suggestions as to how the hell I get my books back - which is all I want).</p> <p>I just don't see how takealot can see it as an acceptable outcome that a customer pays for something and then loses access to it - their claim that they don't refund ebooks might make sense in the context of people buying books and then returning them once read, but "I want to read what I paid for or my money back? Doesn't seem unreasonable and a system that doesn't allow for any retrieval of user details seems hopelessly flawed... (particularly when the attempt right from the start has been to imply that I should just accept the loss for not knowing the right ID when I have never knowingly used a different ID to the one I have... which does work with new purchases on their system).<br /><br />Really got the impression that no one was prepared to go even an inch out of their way to help me.</p>

Hey, I really hope so too, I have been very happy with Takealot for many years, all I want is to find a way to read books I have bought.

BTW I tried to get in contact with Adobe again and ask about the extra charge that was supposed to be attached to re-licencing the books - the Adobe representative pointed out that Adobe digital editions is a free product, I am thus at a loss to see where the costs come in?

Is the problem with a reseller that Takealot uses perhaps?

Thanks for getting back to me and I really hope we can get the right outcome here.

All the best

I am happy to report that Takealot has made a partial refund for my library. I am not sure it will cover every book that is not working but it should allow me to get back the important ones - so I am happy with that at least.

I have yet to see if rebuying the books will update the license... so I'll start with reacquiring something cheap and see if that works... (at the moment Black Friday traffic seems to be making me difficult)

Still a little wary, but credit where it is due and a guarded thank you to the staff at Takealot. Who have gone out of their way to make sure that the entire disaster didn't land on me... I'm sure this has been an unwanted situation for all concerned.

Well done to all those who helped me get this far, it's gone a long way to restoring my faith in the company.
