Takealot are OK

The reviews on this site are pretty poor and I would like to present a rosier picture. 18 months ago, I bought a vegetable steamer from Takealot. The clear plastic has now started to break up and I asked Takealot to replace it. Although the manufacturer clearly states on the packaging that the product is sold with a 2-year warranty, Takealot pointed out that they have a 6-month guarantee on all products. Initially the sales consultant agreed to refund a generous part of the original purchase price provided I first purchased a new vegetable steamer. As soon as I had completed the on-line payment, I checked my e-mails and found an e-mail rejecting my request to return the defective product. I immediately e-mailed Takealot and cancelled my order on the grounds that my purchase was conditional on returning the defective product for a (part) refund. I dealt with a Jody Jensel who agreed verbally to refund the full purchase price, put it in writing and did so that same day. Takealots intentions with regard to the refund were a little confusing since, In addition to Jody Jensel's e-mail, they also sent a letter saying my Takealot account would be credited against future purchases. Takealot are not a mom-and-pop store. They have their standard way of doing things but I will buy from them again, confident that they will provide service.
