Take-a-NOT: Poor Customer Service
I wish I could give them a 0. I bought 2 TVs from Takealot (55" for the living room and 40" for the bedroom) after almost 2 years being without televisions at my residence. The 2 units I had when we moved into the home last year were damaged from an electrical wiring issue. I waited to buy new ones because quite frankly I couldn't afford it and we needed to fix the wiring issue first which we only managed to do a few weeks ago. I am not much of a tv person but my husband loves soccer so I wanted him to be able to watch the world cup on a big screen instead of on the phone/laptop. I made sure to check that they were in stock (this becomes important later) so I wouldn't experience delays - they were initially meant to be delivered 9 June - just in time for the start of the world cup on the 11th. Blow #1: to my dismay I received an email notification on the 7th that the order was delayed because of 1 of the items. My new expected delivery date was the 23rd of June. I was gutted. On the 8th of June I received another notification to say that the item that was delaying the order is actually out of stock and they cancelled it and refunded me. I was disappointed because as I said I made sure to filter by "in stock" when I ordered but at least the other smaller tv was available and the delivery date was updated to 10 June which would mean we would still get it before the world cup was due to start so there was light at the end of the tunnel at least. Then comes blow # 2: I waited by my phone willfully the entire day so that I don't miss the delivery. No one called. No email notification came through about either a failed delivery attempt or a delay. When I got home on the 10th and I confirmed that it indeed was not delivered - I clicked the track order link sent to me in the morning to check if it was updated as delayed with a new delivery date. To my shock and horror, it was updated as "delivered" at 11:41. How? When I didn't receive a call? When the tv was not in my residence? When the signatory to the supposed delivery was simply marked as "customer"?. To give context, I had recently ordered a book from Takealot, a much cheaper commodity and 1) the driver made sure to call 2) when I said he can leave it with security (it was delivered at my work) he made sure to get his full name to mark who accepted it and even put "security" in brackets next to it. I mention this because I am a long time user of Takealot but I had never seen this before but I appreciated it. However, my much more expensive item was signed for by "customer". At this point I am SHATTERED because it didn't matter why or how this happened, at the end of the day it was clear I wouldn't have a tv in time for the world cup. I tried to find a number for customer care (it was about 19:30 at this point but I was hoping they have one of those contact centres that work until late) but I couldn't find a number anywhere. I saw someone else's post on here about Takelot say the same. I then reported the error via their ticket logging system online - the email verification that I got with my reference number said that particular Help Centre worked until 10pm but no one contacted me. Not even the next day. I had to call in again at about 9am after I had searched the web and finally managed to dig up their number somewhere online. The lady logged another ticket and I got a call an hour later where I guess they were trying to get more information from me but it seems like it was delivered to the wrong address but they couldn't ask the driver because he was coincidentally off yesterday. The guy I spoke to was really sympathetic and he said he'd try sort it out same day. That was the last comms I got all day from them. No updates. No apology. No sharing of possible ways to remedy the situation. I called again at 2pm and there was no new update. The lady said she would follow up with escalation. This morning I got the same info, following up with escalations. At this point I'm like, can they just sort me out? The incompetence of the driver is not my fault. I need to either get refunded or get another tv shipped to me and then they must deal with the fallout or loss (if they aren't able to retrieve the tv) on their end. I am so hurt and frustrated. And they have definitely lost a customer because although I understand that mistakes happen (which is why I was happy to accept it when the guy that called me said he'd do what he can - I didn't get angry or demand anything) the lack of updates, accountability and delay in proving a solution to me, a returning customer that has been shopping online with them since way before people trusted it, makes me realise they do not value me nor do they need my money.
