Subject: Misleading “Compatible” HP Ink Cartridges – No Return Policy is Unfair

We recently purchased HP-compatible inkjet cartridges from Takealot for the second time, based on their adverti*****t that the cartridges are compatible with our HP printer. Once again, the cartridges were not compatible at all.

When we contacted Takealot support, we were informed that printer cartridges are “non-returnable”, even when the product is incorrectly advertised or does not match the compatibility stated on the listing.

This raises a serious concern: If Takealot advertises compatibility, but the product does not work with the listed device, how can customers be denied a return? This policy places the full risk on the consumer and contradicts basic principles of fair marketing.

We expect Takealot to:

Comply with the Consumer Protection Act regarding misrepresentation and product not as described

Honour returns for items that are incorrectly advertised

Verify that compatibility claims on their listings are accurate and not misleading

Our intention is not to criticise the entire platform, but to highlight an unfair policy that leaves customers without protection when a product is clearly misrepresented. We request a fair and reasonable resolution.

We are willing to provide photos and proof of incompatibility, and we request a formal review of the “no returns” stance when a product is not as advertised, as this falls under Section 41 of the Consumer Protection Act (misleading marketing).
