Severely Disappointed in Quality and Durability

I purchased the SMEG 1.7L Black Kettle in November 2024, expecting a premium-quality product from a brand that markets itself as stylish and durable. Unfortunately, after just over 7 months of light, normal household use, the lid hinge cracked and broke completely, making the kettle unusable.

I used the kettle 2–3 times a day, and I live alone so this wasn’t heavy use by any means. The hinge broke while simply closing the lid after filling, which caused it to jam shut. Attempting to open it only made things worse, and the entire mechanism failed.

To make matters worse, the customer service I received after reporting the fault was disappointing. I was essentially blamed for the damage, without anyone contacting me to understand how it happened. The response claimed it was “wear and tear” or “user damage,” which felt like a lazy way of avoiding accountability.

What’s more shocking is that my much cheaper Logik plastic kettle, which cost a fraction of the price, is still going strong while this “premium” SMEG kettle has already failed.

I regret buying this product and will not be recommending SMEG to anyone again. If you’re considering investing in this brand for quality or durability think twice!!
