Selling On Takealot? Beware!!

Takealot shows very little concern for their sellers. A single mistake or lack of information can lead to an immediate account suspension and freezing of funds, forcing sellers to beg for assistance. Even with a previously compliant seller account, they exhibit no empathy. Furthermore, the lack of a contact number for the compliance/complaints department means that issues can't be resolved in a civilized manner.

They appear to bully sellers, ignoring the significant amount of time and financial investments made by the seller to start a business.

My experience, like others, was that after selling numerous units of a product, they requested a certificate. After being unable to provide what they consider acceptable, my seller account was immediately suspended and all my funds in the account were frozen. Despite months of pleading and attempts to resolve the issue, my account remains suspended, and I have yet to speak with a human representative about the matter. I have tried providing certification, which was issued to me be by the supplier, however the compliance team states, “these do not confirm authencity”. To date, the funds in my seller accounts are still frozen and I am struggling to get my stock back. Investment was approximately R100k.

In my opinion, takealot is one the worst business partners. There are other platforms out there, in fact several, which one can make use of. Be wary of their clause allowing account suspension/termination at their discretion, as they may use it to cancel your seller account for any reason, despite the substantial investments of time and money you have put in.

Bottom line, be careful before selling on takealot!!
