Second hand goods sold as new and no quality control

I think pretty much anyone can register as a seller on Takealot now, and there are no quality control mechanisms in place.

I used to order stuff almost monthly but now I’m anxious about everything I buy.

I’ve received “branded makeup products” that are obviously not original, the wrong colour items, incorrect product descriptions (especially dimensions), and multiple previously opened boxes and goods.

Like, you’ll receive boxes that have been taped closed again with disgusting looking packing tape. This includes two gifts I have bought that I’m so embarrassed to give to someone but don’t have time to get something else. It looks so tacky and makes me wonder why these goods were returned in the first place? Not to mention how the vendors think it’s okay to resell opened boxes?

Takealot is good with returns but these are products I wouldn’t risk exchanging because I’ll probably receive more of the same standard from the vendors. If I get my money back again, it just means I’ve wasted a lot of time. It’s easier to go out and buy things that are actually new.

Convenience is Takealot’s main selling point, but if ordering means spending money on poor quality and returning it, it’s not convenient. I feel like it’s become a case of 40% chance that you will receive what you ordered.

What is the process to become a vendor on Takealot? It seems like anyone can these days.

I don’t think I’ll risk purchasing from Takealot again, I’ve been disappointed too many times.
