Ruined Christmas

I received a book at the end of November but left it unopened till 2 days before Christmas. Upon opening the package - realised the shocking condition the book was in - the front cover folded and with holes in in and ink or dirt marks on the top of the book. This wasn't something I could give my mother. I went to my orders page on the website and clicked on the "Return Item" button and selected the product is defective or damaged. I then got a notification that a courier would come and collect the item. All good. There was no indication that there could be an issue, so I told my mother that I had opened the package but returning it, so her present would be late.

A few days later, on 30 December, I received the following reply -

We regret to inform you, however, that we cannot proceed with your request to return this item due to the following reason(s):

 Customer failed to notify us of the damaged delivery within 7 days as per our policy states that "should a product be damaged or missing any parts or accessories at the time of delivery, please notify us within 7 days of such delivery by logging a return on our website".

I have been totally embarrassed. If there was not a "Return Item" button on the website or there was a notification on that page that there was this 7 day return policy _ would have just given my mother the book and she would have have had a present on Chistmas day. I had seen that there is a 30 day return policy and was within this period. There was obviously no quality control and you're now aiming to make it my problem - well, it's not my problem. I rep**** to the e-mail and heve not received a reply - hence my complaint here now.

I received the following reply -

Kindly be advised that we have made an Exception and decided to accept your return and create a replacement. Kind Regards, Chad Jones

And for that reason - have converted my review to a 5 star rating. Thanks for your understanding of my situation.

Takealot agreed to replace the item after this complaint - thank you. However I still feel that the Returns form on the website can be improved. I see on the returns policy page - "Should a product be damaged or missing any parts or accessories at the time of delivery / collection, please notify us within 7 days of such delivery / collection" That info should also be on the returns form so people returning damaged items don't go the drama of sending a damaged item back thinking they have 30 days to return a damage item like they do with other items.
