Return horror stories

It is sad that online business is selling items like taps in plastic bags without photos/description, meaning you don't know what are getting. You as a customer is also blamed for missing items. No quality check upfront either. Do I need to be responsible for their poor customer practises? Thus, check immediately if you getting what you want as standardised item. I have received multiple items with a horror return story. Maybe local stores get you better deal.
