Rejected Christmas Return Gift

Order was received 2 weeks before Christmas. Item was opened on Christmas day to find parts missing amd used and not in original product box. After reporting they said they won't replace due to it past their 7 day policy. Surely this happens all the tine over Christmas. Can someone advice how to take this forward. It was an expensive item.
