Non Compliant With Returns Policy

Upon delivery of an Ion LP recorder, from Takealot, purchased on special, I dare say, opened the box to inspect the item. Upon inspection I discovered the turntable cannot accommodate a 12 inch LP. Since I own around fifty 12 inch LP's and about ten 7 inch LP's, it made absolutely no sense to keep it.

In line with Takealot's 30 day no hassles return policy, I filed for the return. All items and packaging as pristine as I received them. Yesterday, December 14th 2015, I receive an email from a Laverne, stating that Takelot will not refund me because the box was open?

Their returns policy mentions absolutely nothing about opening or inspecting an item will invalidate a return, and, I have never had this ridiculous excuse given to me before with past returns. Secondly, nothing on their product page about only accommodating a 7 inch LP. Thirdly, how does Laverne expect an item to be inspected in a sealed box?

Today, the item was returned to me, with torn box, and contents within seemingly tossed around. Not as I had packaged it.

This is in clear violation of their own policy and consumer law. I will seek ncc assistance should they not resolve. I have saved all pages relevant.
