NON ACCOUNTABILITY: CELLPHONE BROKEN IN THEIR ORGANIZATION

On the 25 October 2024, I bought a cellphone from Takealot. On the 11th January 2025, the cellphone gave me a challenge. I booked in the cellphone, fully charged and returned it to the Takealot pick up point.

The Takealot pick up point consultant and the manager saw the challenge the cellphone had and it's working condition. The cellphone was properly sealed in my presence and returned.

On the 15th January 2025, I received an email from Takealot with pictures of a severely damaged cellphone with broken screen. I responded to the email and indicated that I was not happy with the condition the cellphone was in and also being told it was mine. I requested that an investigation be done to find out who broke the my cellphone while in their organisation.

I went back to the Takealot pick up point to show the Takealot pick up consultant the condition of the cellphone that was referred as mine. She was surprised on the bad condition of the cellphone as she personally sealed the cellphone. I called the Takealot customer centre to report the condition of the cellphone which was sent to me. The Takealot pick up point consultant, also spoke to the Takealot customer consultant and confirmed the working condition of the cellphone and also indicated that her manager saw the cellphone before it was sent to their organisation.

The Takealot customer call centre indicated that he will request return extension to escalate the matter. Since then I have been taken from pillar to post. I have been contacted by six (6) customer consultants through emails and all of them cannot resolve this issue and find out who broke my cellphone while in their organisation. I also requested that they listen to the telephone recording between the Takealot pick up point consultant and the takealot customer consultant regarding the working condition of my cellphone. My request was in vain. I am disappointed with the service from the six (6) Takealot customer consultants taking me from pillar to post and eventually wanting to send back the cellphone that they can't even investigate who broke it within their organisation. There is lack of follow-through and lack of accountability.
