No refund for hockey shoes

I bought Asics hockey shoes from Takealot, and after 4 months of wear it is coming loose. They refuse to refund a R2500 pair of shoes. The 1 person says the shoes are dirty and it smells (don't think they know any hockey players- hockey shoes tend to smell you know). And upon my objection that we DO clean it, the other person said that "As per the policy, damage resulting from activities like washing, usage conditions causing odor, or external factors such as sports surface material would typically fall under wear and tear and user-related damage, which voids the warranty."

So it seems I must clean it, but if I clean it, it voids the warranty. And also seems you must not use their shoes for the intended purpose... I feel offended by the way they are handling this, and my daughter is losing her favourite Asics hockey shoes. Not even Asics want to assist. So seems R2500 is nothing to them, while it is quite a lot of money to me. My disappointed with them I can't actually put into words... while they actually don't seem to care.
