Never buy jewellery from Takealot.com

In September 2019 I bought a pair of earings that i thought would be perfect as a gift for a close friend. These earrings are of very poor quality. The first time I used it (which was to repackage it as it was a gift), the ear piercing part broke off. Takealot does not take returns of the item and as such you cannot return it even if it is of a poor quality or defective. I've tried to escalate the matter, but have not had joy. how can Takealot sell such poor quality items!?
