MISTREATMENT OF TAKEALOT DRIVER BY MANAGER

Good day,

I write this review with absolute disappointment and disgust in the way I am being treated upon nearly 2 weeks in as a new driver at Takealot.

After many attempts of trying to get ahold of Human Resource Management for employees I ended up being given the following email addresse : *** (which is hr for customer services). I also tried calling *** numerous times and there was still no answer.

It is unfortunate that I have to put such a delicate and private matter on this platform, but here goes nothing. Considering the devastating employment climate in our country (South Africa) I resorted to signing up as a driver at Takealot. Not many have the privilege of owning a car and having this opportunity as an option. I am a mother of 2 and have been unemployed for 2 years. Nearly 2 weeks in as a new driver I have a female Manager placed at the Wonderboom Junction (where im also placed) violating my rights as an employee.

I informed my manager upon starting that at 5pm daily I have to go offline to pick up my children (4 year old and 1 year old) or else I will be fined for not picking them up on time. Secondly, I also said now that I will be able to receive an income i will look for other alternatives (such as looking for a stay in nanny) so i can work longer hours or until restaurants close. Currently I cannot afford to as I have only started working now and need to save up first.

On the 9th February 2022 the female Manager than texted on the whatsapp group to say that she will be deducting R250 from my wages for being offline (even after being completely aware of my challenge that i informed her about). Today on the 11th February 2022, i went to wonderboom junction drivers office as per usual to sign in and to be inspected before i get on the road. I than got to my parking sport and sent a msg on the grouo requesting to be online and shifted and be allocated orders. The manager than said there is no need for that because I knock off at 5pm.

Is this even fair labor law practices? I am using my vehicle to make ends meet and to try ans sustain my livelihood and that of my children with the hours i have an opportunity to put in daily and this is the treatment i get? Trying to make an honest living?

In conclusion, if this treatment continues and if my wages has been cut I will be left with no choice but to take this further. As an employee who is performing her duties, i too have rights that are not meant to be violated in this manner by the employee.
