Misleading 30 day return policy, defective product and no refund
I ordered a Defy fridge from Takealot. Within a month, it began to make grating noises and finally the fridge section died. Despite the product page having a ‘30 day hassle free return’ label, when I tried to log a return I found I wasn’t able to. When I phoned Takealot, I was told that the manufacturer warranty overrode this, despite the 30 day return label being clearly displayed on the product page. I was told I needed to go to Defy for a refund. Defy were confused, because I didn’t buy the fridge from them and they can’t refund me. I go back to Takealot and they open a ticket, where I promptly get told to go back to Defy. Defy, again, are confused. I go back to Takealot. What transpired was a very convoluted conversation where Takealot tried to insist that it was Defy’s responsibility, and then backtracked and said that I’d need to obtain a credit note from Defy. I have never in my life been asked to produce a credit note from the manufacturer when returning a defective product to the supplier for a refund. I’m frustrated that Takealot sold me a product that broke within a month, imp**** on the product page that it was eligible for an easy return, and then proceeded to dodge around the fact that they were obligated to refund me. I still have not been refunded, nor has any progress in getting refunded been made. I’m sorry, but if you sell a customer a defective product that breaks within your 30 day time frame, you are actually obligated to refund them. The lack of customer service and care has been astonishing.
