MAAW Manual Sweeper. ( How do I know if it's suitable, if I do not 'use' it?

The MAAW Floor Sweeper was delivered to me on 22/10/23. (Order no ***) After a 'test run'+-10 minutes, I found it unsuitable. I logged a return request. It was collected on the 23/10/23. The return request was refused because 'it had been used.' I had tried to clean the little that may have been in it (difficult to open) I find the decision to be very unfair.
