Inept support staff and bad-faith marketing

I recently unsubscribed from all newsletters with the exception of the daily deals. However, I continued receiving emails from departments I wasn't subscribed to. I ended up logging three tickets ( ********** , ********** , ********** ) to raise this. I was repeatedly told to visit the unsubscribe page, which I had obviously done and which hadn't worked. I eventually got a semi-decent answer from someone that queried this with marketing. According to the takealot terms all clients automatically agree to receive marketing emails from any department (these terms changed from opt-in to opt-out August 2015 without any notification). When I raised the fact that the unsubscribe page allows someone to choose what newsletters are of interest and yet takealot doesn't seem to care what is actually selected there, I was told that there is actually no way to unsubscribe from the takealot newsletters unless the manualyl unsubscribe me from everything. So an all or nothing approach, no middle ground. All I want to get is the daily deals newsletter, not unwanted and ultimately annoying emails about animal products and fancy dress costumes. From what was passed on from the marketing department, these emails are all based on previous purchases, which I know is a lie because I have not purchased anything similar to these products. When I sent further emails querying this I only ended up getting canned responses that I should create a profile (umm, I already have one) or that I should visit the unsubscribe page and unsubscribe from what I don't want (already tried that and it didn't work). This simply shows that the staff answering the support emails don't bother to read the content of the ticket before spewing any random answer they think is remotely appropriate. Why don't the staff answering support emails bother reading and understanding the request before answering, or are they not interested (i.e. would rather be on facebook) or are not trained properly to know what I am talking about? And why does your marketing department have an all or nothing approach to newsletters and why does the unsubscribe page exist yet appear to have no function? I honestly don't mind receiving mails about items of interest (i.e. what I've selected on the newsletter page) but for heaven's sake, don't just send me anything and everything you can just because your latest set of terms say you can, you're just going to infuriate me. Go for it, have the automated mails that are based on the customers latest purchases and product views, but at least make sure it abides by the selected newsletter preferences or at the very least applies to items that the customer actually bought or viewed in the last month, not something from 2 or more years ago (Amazon does this same but properly).
