Impossible to change delivery time

I urgently needed something from takealot and had asked someone to place the order for me. After realizing that they had chosen standard delivery instead of express, I had contacted takealot and requested if I could pay the additional charge to change the delivery time to sooner. They had informed me that this was impossible to do. Why is this? And is there anyway I could collect the package rather than have it delivered?
