Goliath defeats David. The story of Takealot.com and my honest son
To Who this may Concern This is not a review about a product however it is certainly a statement I wish to make directly to the owner of a multimillion rand business for conduct unbecoming of such a supposedly respected organization. Let me start from the beginning, hopefully people out there and at Takealot.com will sympathise with the "small guy". My son got his drivers license in April 2018 year and as with any youngster was very excited to receive it as well as a very nice car. However 4 months later my son was involved in an accident involving a Takealot.com truck. The description of the incident speaks for itself. My son on inside lane turning onto onramp onto the highway while the Takealot truck was in the second and outside lane also turning onto the highway. They both turn together and the truck tries to speed up to ensure he gets in front of my sons vehicle where the two lanes become a single lane getting onto said highway. In doing so the truck side swipes the front of my sons car and the very strong steel rear bumper of the truck rips the left of my sons cars fender (from the rear of it) completely off, also taking out the left side lamps and causing other damages. The driver and my son stop their vehicles, the driver get out of the truck and apologisies to my son for his error. As it is "rush hour traffic NOT a single person stopped" to assist my son as a witness. Here is where the story gets real interesting. My son calls me, all upset and I arrive on the scene before the police arrive. I speak to my son to calm him down then I go to speak to the driver who is by now sitting in his truck (just by the way, there is not a scratch on the truck, I have photos of both vehicles but you can imagine the damage to my sons little car) and I also ask him what happened and he new he was in the wrong. I took a photo of his drivers license, was not issued for long by the way, and asked for his bosses phone number, I will mention his name on here because I want to, it is Frik!! Frik informs me not to worry it will be taken care of. Then the police arrive, they first talk to the driver all of which is in an African language and it is clear from the drivers expressions and arm movements that he is now changing the course of events to make it look like my son is at fault. I went over to talk to the police and they chased me away, which is typical of course. Then my son tell the "true events" and statements are made on the scene. Again the police chase me away when I am trying to support my son. He is 19, I am his guardian and wanted to ensure everything was accounted for but no, they say he is old enough and again I am forced away. Needless to say the tow vehicle came and took my sons car away and Takealot.com and their undamaged vehicle and their blatantly lying driver (obviously to save his own a**) drive away to conduct their usual million rand daily business. Now my son, who just started his first job by the way that week, has no means of transport. I suppose you can guess what happens next. You got it, I get hit with a bill of R3500.00 to get the car out of the towing yard and to a panel beater for assessment. During this time I sent numerous messages to the now known "Frik" regarding the incident, who informed me "it would be taken care of by their insurance". So, next step, car is assessed for damages through my insurance and car is fixed but only returned once I have paid the R4000.00 excess (costs now totaling R7500.00) SO, now I am expecting Takealot.com's insurance to repay me for these costs. In turns out that Frik took the word of the lying driver over my son's and informs me, only over Whatssup, that insurance are taking care of it. It turns out that their insurance will not recover my expenses and since Frik has ignored my communications. So the "little guy gets *****ed" while Takelot.com (in the newspapers) experience their best EVER turn over for Black Friday making ten of millions in revenue. Me, I get stuck with my insurance informing me they have had to go the "3rd Party" route to "attempt" to get my money back. Also, I am informed this could take a "very long time". I hope somewhere down the line that justice is served up on Takealot.com as this was not only traumatic for my son and very expensive for myself, the little guy who looks at the events that occurred and honestly expected Frik and the company to help. THEY DIDN'T. Right now they do not even think about the tiny little, barely visible scratch on their truck nor they even care about the feelings of my son, the job lost opportunity with no vehicle to get to work. That is what hurts the most. David did not defeat Goliath on this occasion, he got royally walked on, squashed into the ground like he never existed. Morals, ethics, common decency and a thought for the small guy just did not exist. So the story, as I said, its not about a product complaint, its a moral complaint. And due to this I now intend to take my story further to the newspapers. Our whole country is suffering financially exactly because of the "Goliaths" taking us for granted and ripping us off. Time to fight back. I will be ending this by saying "Takealot.com this is not the last you will be hearing from me".
Danny, proud father of my Kade who only told "The Truth" and you made him out to be a **** by accepting your drivers version of events. Shame on you!!
