fitbit buyers beware of warranty

Today I learnt that takealot's 6 month warranty overrides the manufacturer's 2 year warranty.

I bought a fitbit from takealot in Jan 2015. The rubber covering has been peeling for several months. Fitbit has a 2 year warranty on their devices. This peeling is a well known and common manufacturing flaw that has come to light repeatedly in the last year. Fitbit's policy with this flaw is to immediately replace it.

A friend suggested I see if takealot would help me get a replacement for my flawed fitbit.

Takealot told me that they would not help me as their warranty on fitbits only extends to 6 months (not fitbits stated 2 years on the documentation that came with the device) and the well known manufacturing flaw (that has been seen on models right out the box) was just \normal wear and tear"and thus they would not help me.

Fitbit themselves offerd to immediately send me a free replacement but they only deliver to US/UK/ Europe and Australia. So if I want a replacement I have to pay R3000 in courier fees to have a third party in one of those regions forward it onto me.

If I ever buy a new fitbit it will not be from takealot."""
