False advertising and horrible customer service
I purchased a cellphone from Takealot with specific spesifications in mind. One of these is that the device should have an NFC reader. Of course I checked the description before purchasing the phone and the adverti*****t clearly stated that the phone had an NFC reader. A few weeks after receiving the phone (which I was extremely happy with), I tried to pay using a virtual payment method, and it showed that the phone did not have the functionality to pay using this method. I then called around finding out if the model did have an NFC and I was told that some imports may not have it built in. I tried to get the NFC activated on the phone, however, after a lot of research, I found that the import I had received had no NFC reader.
I contacted Takealot and the agent assigned was very unhelpful, telling me that they would not be able to assist without me logging a return. Eventually, I logged a return. The return was rejected as I had not submitted my return within 30 days. However, their policy does state that defective items may be returned after 30 days. Seeing as the NFC reader in the phone does not work or is not even built into the phone, the phone is in fact defective.
Takealot has refused to contact me following the rejection of my return. I have sent them emails to try and sort the matter out, but there is complete radio silence. No replies. They even closed off my return request without further answering my queries and have not even communicated about how they will be sending the phone back to me in the case that they will not further assist with the matter.
Not only are they in contravention of the consumers protection act by falsely advertising a product, but they are also completely unhelpful. This is the absolute worst customer experience that I have ever experienced in my life.
