Exploitation of the consumer

I was interested in buying a infrared thermometer (as a result of the COVID-19 crisis). I identified a product on Takealot and initially did not place my order as I wanted to establish a more accurate date when the delivery / collection could take place as I work within the medical field and require the product urgently. I took a screenshot of the product.

After a challenging search for a contact number for Takealot it was indicated to me that the price has changed from R4999 to R5999 - a R1000 and thus 20% increase.

I understand the demand for products like this is very high due to the COVID-19. However this seems like exploitation of the consumer.

I am very concerned as it was indicated that this is due to the change from the supplier, thus with Takealot not taking any responsibility.

It was indicated to me that there is no one at Takealot that can assist me with my concern.

The product has since been removed from Takealot. Yesterday at 13:24 I posted on Facebook requesting feedback from Takealot - I have not received any feedback.

This product can aid in ensuring not only the safety of the medical facility where I work but also the safety of our patients and all who frequent our offices. I am sure escalating of these prices are against the Consumer Protection Act?
