Disappointing returns service

I purchased a fan online on the 1st of Nov 2024, as per the ad it seems to be what I required. I picked up the Item on the 3rd and went home. The Monday I unboxed and put it on to see if it was what I needed, it is a lovely fan but then later in the week it was hot and tried it in the bedroom. to find out it was too loud and the LCD display does not dim, so this was Bright. the next day I logged a return request and the item was eventually collected. Takealot denied the return because it was used???? How else are you supposed to check the item. They kept referring me to the website on returns which is very ambiguous, the one says i cannot return the item if i used it, the other says if I'm not satisfied I can return it within 30 days. please explain this to me as I have been a loyal user of Takealot and have now unsubscribed and will be voicing this to everyone I know that uses Takealot. Please respond
