Deceptive deals

We purchased a soundbar on the site that broke within 1 year. Upon return, we were sent from Takealot to another company, only to be told that Takealot has to refund the product ( because it cannot be fixed ). This process took weeks. We were held responsible for communication with the various parties, only to be told by Takealot in the end that we purchased a second-hand product that only had a 6-month warranty. No where on the deal ad does it mention we are looking at a second-hand product. I will definitely not buy used electronics. I am utterly disappointed at this deceit and the manner in which the return was dealt. When Takealot took hold of the product weeks ago, they could've told us immediately about the product being second-hand and the possible struggle we'd be facing ahead , saving us all this energy. Somehow, as a consumer, I do not feel respected. It was not disclosed to me that what I was buying, was not what I thought, then only to be told that the product cannot be returned or fixed. In my mind, Takealot is responsible for what I buy. My relationship is not with their supplier. Because everyone has different rules and warranties, we now sit with a product that doesn't work and money wasted, less than a year old. What prevents me from just going straight to a place like Makro to buy a product, because clearly Takealot does not make the process convenient or take any responsibility for defects? Then we were told that the item is cheaper than other items and that should tell us it is used. How are we meant to draw such a conclusion? The soundbar was the only JVC item on display and should we guess that all items on special is actually used?

I've been a customer for 10 years and based on this experience ( and another incident where an item was added to and removed from the site within days--and I was told that it is out of stock ), it is the last time I will be making use of your service. I would've appreciated a refund or the same product replaced with a new item.

Thank you for replying, however, you maintain that everything that has transpired, is in the best interest of the customer? Definitely not. Selling items that cannot be repaired upon return, is definitely not the right thing to do. Neither is not disclosing to your customer that the item they have already paid for is in deed 2nd hand.. That sound bar was packaged and sealed exactly like a brand new item would've been, in the original packaging.
