Credit for zero repairs

I sent a carpet cleaner back as specifically asked for it to be repaired by the supplier. Next thing I know Takealot gave me credit and said the supplier can't repair it. When I phoned the supplier they said that the unit was never even sent to them for repairs. It seems to simply just give credit was the easy way out for Takealot to make sure you spend your money with them again. I want my broken cleaner back as I will take it in for repairs myself, and according to the supplier it is a quick fix.
