Cheated after so many years of being a loyal customer

After dealing with Takealot for years, we got caught this week and we now never want anything more to do with them. We bought a dog clipper advertised to cut thick coats, but when it arrived, it was evident after 15 secs that it was hopeless. Cheap plastic with Korean instructions - for R1399,00. We immediately logged the refund online and they duly uplifted and successfully logged the arrival back in their warehouse on 30/10.2021. Then came an email saying the return/refund had been rejected due to the clipper having been "used" - yes ofcourse we tried it out to ascertain if it could do the job - otherwise how would we have known!! But we cleaned it before repackaging it in the original box. Now they sit with our product and our money - that, in our opinion is theft - maybe a charge should be laid at the local police station? The Consumer Protection Act states that an item bought may be USED and if found to be unsuitable, returned for a FULL REFUND. That is the law. Takealot is thus breaking the law by refusing to refund customers on the basis that the item was used. After years of good reviews having bought laptops, kindles, cartridges, external drives - I'm disgusted at what ****s they are now pulling.
