Cancelled order

I am extremely disappointed with Takealot's ********* business practices and total disregard for the Consumer Protection Act (CPA). Almost a month ago, I purchased an item on a great deal for R230. Takealot happily took my money and confirmed my order. Then, literally the day before the scheduled delivery, they suddenly cancelled it, claiming it was an "inadvertent pricing error." The exact same item is now listed on their site for R509. Under Section 23(9) of the CPA, retailers are only protected if a pricing error is "obvious." R230 for a R509 item is roughly a 55% discount—a completely standard and believable promotion in online retail. No reasonable consumer would look at that and assume it's a system glitch. Furthermore, the law requires businesses to inform customers of an error promptly. Sitting on my funds for nearly a month, only to cancel the day before delivery, is entirely unreasonable and highly inconvenient. Takealot has refused to honour the R230 price or provide a voucher for the difference so I can repurchase it without being out of pocket. If you see a good deal on Takealot, beware—they might just take your money, hold it for weeks, and cancel at the last minute when you are expecting your delivery.
