Broken table delivered and refund refused

I bought a 1.8m Folding Trestle Table from @Takealot.com as a birthday present for a friend who was away in Durban, so we only tried to open the table when she got back. We discovered it was delivered to us with a bent hinge and missing a lock/unlock clip on one of the hinges, and therefore we were not able to open the table at all. I logged a return for the table and was told that because it was outside the 7 day return window, they wouldn’t replace it or refund me. I personally think this is disgusting customer service. I mean why do they bother allowing you to log a return at all in that case?!?! And what are we meant to do with a brand new but broken and unusable table that was delivered to us damaged in the first place.
