Bad service from Takealot

I recently ordered a laptop from Takealot. It is a refurbished one and works perfectly. When I needed to charge it up, the charger wouldn't work. I reported this to them and they said i should log an exchange/return. I told them i only want to exchange the charger, not the laptop but unfortunately I cannot do that. I feel they should at least check the whole system including the charger that all is working. I feel this is really bad service!!! I have had to now go buy a new charger which is an unnecessary expense.
