As unhelpful as possible

I received a gift from a relative via takealot. Unfortunately, it contained items I already had, but only realised this a bit later. Not wanting to go back to my relative and tell them I didn't want their gift, I contacted takealot and requested to swap the items. I offered to cover any administritave / delivery fees they felt reasonable.

Takealot could not be bothered to assist and effectively give methe choice of either appearing ungrateful to the person giving me a gift or keeping unwanted items. Being helpful would cost them nothing, but being unhelpful has cost them one loyal customer. Realliy, it's their stupdity I find most irritating.

As expected, was again told that the "system does not allow them to assist me". I personally thought that systems were supposed to follow the instructions of humans, not vice versa. It seems that at takealot, the system must be obeyed, even if it means losing a loyal customer.
