ACTIVE CGSO INVESTIGATION: Takealot Refusing IP67 Waterproof Warranty Over Unrelated Post-Fault Damage (***-***)
CGSO Ref Number: ***
I am deeply disappointed by Takealot’s failure to honor a binding 12-month manufacturer warranty, which is currently forcing me to ride without critical safety and navigation gear.I purchased a 6.25” Motorcycle CarPlay unit that was explicitly advertised as IP67/IPX7 waterproof and fit for purpose under rain and motorcycle conditions. No disclaimers or exclusions were listed.
After light water exposure during a standard motorcycle wash, the screen suffered catastrophic water ingress and began malfunctioning. The unit was used exactly as intended and the bike is garage-kept.Takealot rejected my warranty claim based entirely on a minor accessory wire that was accidentally nicked after the unit had already failed, specifically during its removal.
Under Section 55 of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), goods must be fit for their advertised purpose. Takealot is attempting to void a statutory warranty based on unrelated secondary damage, despite there being zero causal linkage between an external accessory wire and the structural failure of the unit's internal IPX7 waterproof seals.Takealot’s assessment was done in bad faith; they focused entirely on the wire to avoid addressing the core product defect.
To make matters worse, Takealot ignored the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO) during the initial 15-business-day window, forcing the matter to be escalated to a formal investigator (Case ***-***). My escalations on X/Twitter have been met with nothing but dismissive, scripted delays.
I demand that Takealot’s executive escalations team manually override this automated rejection, acknowledge their advertised IP specification, and issue an immediate refund so I can replace this safety equipment.
