Is the SweapSouth system legal?
I am satisfied with the service supp**** by the Sweepstar, however, I was shocked to hear that SweepSouth staff (contracter's) are not granted/paid: annual leave, sick leave, familiy responsibility leave, public holiday pay, etc. and furthermore are not covered by UIF and no PAYE and or SDL compliance. SweepSouths response? See below:
SweepSouth operates as a platform that links clients up to vetted cleaners (SweepStars), therefore SweepStars are not employees of SweepSouth, but independent contractors that make use of our platform much like Uber drivers make use of Uber.
SweepStars are protected by Simply for life and disability cover, however, they are not registered for the below due to being independent contractors on our platform:
Employees Tax (PAYE) Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) Workmen's compensation (WCA) S****s Development Levy (SDL) Employment Tax Incentive (ETI) Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE)
I can confirm that SweepSouth is registered for Value added tax (VAT), Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE), and Company Tax. It should be noted that we do not charge VAT on any of our invoices because the invoice is issued by SweepSouth on behalf of the SweepStar (cleaner) because of SweepStars on our platform being independent contractors and only making use of our platform to find clients.
As independent contractors, SweepStars do not qualify for any company benefits, however, they are able to book days off on our platform whenever they wish to and when a SweepStar is onboard, they select the days that they would like to receive bookings on through our platform.
SweepStars are paid an hourly rate, based on the areas they have selected to work in and the days that they have opted to work on. Up to 80% of the booking fee is paid to the SweepStar. Please note that rates are different for each area and days, therefore you will only be able to obtain the rate for your area by getting a price estimate on www.sweepsouth.com.

As we have mentioned in our email correspondence, SweepSouth is a Platform that facilitates the connecting of clients who are looking to have their homes cleaned to people who provide home cleaning services. Our goal is to make it more convenient for homeowners to find home cleaners with a simple tap of a button, via our app or our website whilst Improving the lives of those who provide home cleaning services by giving them more access to earning opportunities at better rates than market averages. As we are just a platform that facilitates the connecting of clients to cleaners, rather than SweepSouth being an employer, legally, our independent contractors are not registered for the above as this would place us in the position of an employer-employee relationship. Many of our independent contractors are often underemployed or unemployed and prefer looking for clients through our Platform as we help them find more work and better earning opportunities.
