Not releasing a line because of another customer's unsettled bill.

Stay away.

I bought a property which the previous tenant used supersonic as their ISP and supersonic just do not care to release the line.

I did the right thing to call their support centre and ask politely what I can do to release the line but was informed that the line can not be release as it is still occupied. I mentioned that I spoke to the previous tenant and that the tenant informed me that they have canceled the service.

So I asked if there is anything I can do to release the line and was dismissed once again. I explained that I now occupy the property to which the line is connected and that I am being penalised for a loophole in their model.

It was then that I was informed that its not a loophole but rather a mechanism for the company to settle bills as the previous tenant had an unsettled account and the line can not be released until the account is settled.

I work from home via internet, I can not afford to not have internet, I am a liability without it. So obviously I said that I will be willing to settle the bill just make the problem go away. Surprised I was that this is not good enough, and now I get told that I am asking them to break the POPI act...

I told the assistant that I never asked them any such thing, I just made a proposition that I can settle the bill so that we can resolve the issue. No info needed etc. Still no.

So I tell the assistant that I have been accommodating to the fullest extent but this is to far now, I will take this further in any way I can, I need internet and I don't need to do supersonic's job by making their clients pay their bills. I asked for the reference number so that I can track it.

Thats when I got handed over to a manager and got apologised for the bad experience caused by the new hire... I was then offered to move my ISP to Supersonic and all the problems will go away. So first they accuse me of trying to break the POPI act and now they are bullying me to join a contract with them.

When I asked this the manager backed off and apologised yet again and said that I can proceed to settle the bill and they will release the line... I paid the account, sent the proof of payment and called the old tenant to confirm if the account was settled and release is queued. This was 2 weeks ago.

I hope MTN understands why I am taking my 3 ongoing cellular contracts elsewhere. I will not support a company who's business model is to bully people.

I have already informed ISPA, and I am not stopping until my line is released.
